30.06.13 - 02.07.13

So I have finally got myself sorted to write a blog!

Sun 30.06.13- Mon 01.07.13
On the 30th of June I flew up to Wellington and spent a day and a half there. Thank you Haze for having me to stay at Owhiro bay! Owhiro bay is beautiful. I went for a morning stroll around the beach at sunrise, pink light shining of the snow on the mountains of the south island. Gorgeous. Thanks Haze and Griff for your beautiful singing in rehearsals for NZ youth choir concert. (which I unfortunately missed as I was flying out the day of the concert). I hope it went well . I also sorted some last minute things such as buying a camera and ear phones for ipod.

Tues 02.07.13
Flying over Oz (sorry about the bad photo)
On the second of July at 3:45am I took a taxi to the airport and checked my luggage in. I then had a couple of hours to kill until my flight to Sydney at 6:30am. This went fast however and I was soon on the plane and on my way. Served second breakfasts on the plane and touched down in Sydney airport with an hour to transfer to my flight to Bangkok. The transfer all went smoothly and I was soon in the air headed for South East Asia. I was amazed at how long it took to fly over Australia. I knew Oz was big but hadn't quite grasped how big! We flew over the north east part of central Australia and over Cairns. The earth in that area looked amazing. Reds, whites and oranges like marbled paper on the ground. Hardly any vegetation. I thought about the Aborigine people and wondered if it would be possible to live in a place like that these days and what it might be like. On the plane I was sitting beside a man from Sydney who was travelling to Thailand for work as he had done many times before. He showed me where to buy a Thai sim card for my phone when I got off the plane, which was a great help.

Bed at The Great residence Hotel, Bangkok
The mini bus from the hotel I was to stay at (The Great Residence) picked me up from the airport and took my to the hotel. I went out for a walk to find something for dinner and see the area. There where lots of street stalls and mini shack open air restaurants that had plastic chairs and tables. I chose one that had lots of Thai people eating at it and one of the people there bought over a menu that had English as well as Thai writing. Lesson number one: If something doesn't mention meat on the menu in English, don't assume that it is vegetarian! I paid for my meal (80 baht/aprox $3) and took it back to my room to eat but quickly found that it had what I think were pig ears in it. opps! so I went to the hotel restaurant for dinner and had vegetables and rice there instead. I was very tired by this time as I hadn't sleep for about 20 hours, so I had a very good sleep that night.
